Navy Drinking

My brother began drinking when he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 19 or 20. After he was discharged from the Navy, he married and had one son. He married again and when he began to have problems in his marriage he began drinking a lot.

One night his wife called my parents. He had been drinking and went into a rage throwing things. He said that he would die drinking. His wife left him and he began drinking heavily sometimes with his son in the car.

One time my parents got a call in the middle of the night to pick up their grandson as he was in the car with his Dad when stopped by the police. Other times they had to go bail my brother out of jail. My father died in 1987 and about a year later, my brother went to AA meetings.

After he completed the program he has turned his life around and is sober today. My mother lived to see this happen a few months before she died in 1990.
