I have a nephew that used alcohol. Under the influence of alcohol he shot a person and killed him. He was picked up, put into jail, found guilty, and was in prison for ten yeears. Our son was very close friend with his cousin, my nephew, so they spent much time together - with some escapades but nothing life threatening. Thank God!
Sorry to say the nephew thought that he could handle alcohol after he was released from prison. He uses it but hasn't had any serious consequences unless you conisder open heart surgery serious.
